ACCOUNTANT


 

At Mintech, an accountant is responsible for attending to and monitoring the financial health of the company. Maintenance of the company's books, provision of insight and instruction regarding local tax laws and responsibilities, and preparation of financial statements are all tasks that fall under the purview of the accountant.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 5 CXC Subjects, including English, Mathematics, Accounting, and 1 business subject
  • Based in, or willing to be based in Kingston, Jamaica
  • Experience/proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Word
  • At least Level 3 ACCA qualified
  • At least four (4) years’ experience as an accountant
  • Proficient with QuickBooks, Peachtree or similar or higher levels of accounting systems
  • Tertiary certification in management and/or leadership studies

DUTIES

  • Management of tax compliance, including TCCs and NCCs
  • Oversee and ensure that general bookkeeping is done in a timely and efficient manner; verify, allocate, post and reconcile transactions and financial discrepancies
  • Training, management and guidance of junior accounting clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions
  • Answer accounting and tax procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting and taxation policy and regulations
  • Ensure company compliance with local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions
  • Generation, maintenance and submission of monthly bank reconciliations, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow, and budget reports
  • Maintain the Fixed Asset Register
  • Analyze financial information and report on company financial status
  • Maintain, enter and reconcile payroll, salary advances, and staff loans
  • Maintain the chart of accounts in the accounting system
  • Prepare and conduct internal audits
  • Prepare for and arrange external audits and assist external auditors where needed
  • Communicate with management on work status and client issues that arise
  • Provide input into the department's goal-setting process
  • Maintain accounting controls and recommend action by reviewing and recommending accounting systems, policies, and procedures, alongside General Management personnel.
  • Ensure that stock value is accurately represented on the accounting system after each stock count
  • Assistance with company bid preparations as needed
